Heralded as Brisbane’s newest cultural destination and a vibrant events, urban lifestyle and dining precinct, King Street is an integral component of Lendlease’s multi-billion dollar redevelopment of the Brisbane Showgrounds. To raise the awareness and profile of this new street, Lendlease sought an innovative, creative project that would draw residents, workers and visitors alike to engage with the site’s iconic heritage and celebrate its regional significance.
Cemented History is an interactive graphical timeline that enables patrons to unearth the diverse social and cultural history of the Brisbane Showgrounds. Facilitated through a series of vibrant artworks displayed atop King Street’s pre-existing concrete seating in the form of outdoor vinyl stickers, each design represents a significant event in the site’s history. QR codes and NFC tags enable public interaction, directing participants to an associated website that explains the story behind each historical event and helps navigate them through the timeline. Taylor designed a bold, modern and edgy brand identity for the project that aligns with King Street’s bold accent colours, modern architectural design and eclectic mix of lifestyle offerings. This was then executed across the project’s seat artwork designs, wayfinding maps, website and both print and online promotional collateral. Cemented History was selected as the winner of the Lendlease Creative Engagement Project in 2018.
